From the beginning of our style journey, Belinda and I wanted to be brand ambassadors. We just didn’t know how to do this. Every step of growing our social media presence has been about figuring things out. We have learned so much already and still we don’t know even half of it. We also didn’t want to be associated with a brand that didn’t have the same ethos as us. From the very start we decided to work hard at building a presence on social media, but also to stay true to who we are.
According to Wikipedia a brand ambassador is a person who is hired by an organisation or company to represent a brand in a positive light and by doing so help to increase brand awareness and sales. The brand ambassador is meant to embody the corporate identity in appearance, demeanor, values and ethics. Predominantly, a brand ambassador is known as a positive spokesperson, an opinion leader or a community influencer, appointed as an internal or external agent to boost product or service sales and create brand awareness. Today, brand ambassador as a term has expanded beyond celebrity branding to self-branding or personal brand management.
Typically the job of a brand ambassador was undertaken by a celebrity or someone of a well-known presence, who was often paid considerably for their time and effort. Nowadays however, a brand ambassador can be anyone who has the same look and ethos as a brand, and who has a following on social media. The brand ambassador’s job is to drive results through communication tools.
Smaller brands are also looking for ambassadors as part of their marketing strategy. They can’t pay celebrities or big influencers to endorse their products, but they can have a type of partnership with upcoming social media influencers. Instead of employing influencers, brands pay them a percentage of the sales that are made because of their marketing on social media.
Every now and then a brand we liked would be looking for brand ambassadors. We would apply and put ourselves out there, but nothing happened. Just keep on keeping on, was becoming our motto.
During 2019 we also started moving away from fast fashion. We became very mindful when buying clothes and would rather not buy new. If we do buy new we want it to be sustainable, ethical fashion. So, as you can imagine we were thrilled when Piccardilla asked us to apply as brand ambassadors.
With Piccardilla, all the boxes are ticked. They offer products that respect people, the environment and customers. Responsibly made clothes that don’t harm the environment or workers in the textile industry, are the values that they subscribe to. Piccardilla is exactly the type of brand we were hoping to be associated with.
We are comfortable aligning ourselves with this fantastic brand. And we will keep on keeping on figuring it out.
